Katherine Heigl says packing up and moving to Utah was the best thing she could have done for her children.
The actress told E! News she struggled to raise her three children in sunny Los Angeles, prompting her and husband Josh Kelley to make the move.
“I didn’t know how to raise them in LA, so I felt like I could do it here,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum told the outlet.
“I could be more on top of things that scare me and I could be more on top of the kinds of friends they have and places they’re going, the kind of activities they’re involved in — and what the hell they’re doing on their phones.”
The “27 Dresses” actress, who tied the knot with Kelley in Park City, Utah in 2007, shares daughters Naleigh, 14, Adalaide, 10, and son Joshua, 6, with her singer hubby.
Heigl, 44, said the busy lifestyle that came with living in LA became a little much, and Utah gave their family the chance to “decompress.”
“I could kind of decompress and let that hustle part of me go — a little bit,” she explained.

“I don’t know that in any career you can ever completely stop hustling, but being able to separate it a little bit and choose those times of hustle versus just being in it constantly was really important to me.”

Heigl and Kelley adopted daughter Naleigh from South Korea in 2009, when she was 9 months old.
Despite the initial difficulties of being a first-time mother, Heigl wanted to further expand her family, telling Gala magazine in 2010 that she and Kelley “would love to have a second child, adopted or biological.”
The couple went on to adopt another daughter Adelaide in 2012, before giving birth to a son, Joshua Jr. in 2017.
Heigl’s revelation comes as Mark Wahlberg revealed that he moved his family out of their plush $90 million California mansion in a bid for a “better life” in Las Vegas, Nev.
“I want to be able to work from home,” Wahlberg, 51, said on “The Talk” in October 2022. “I moved to California many years ago to pursue acting, and I’ve only made a couple of movies in the entire time that I was there.”
“So, to be able to give my kids a better life and follow and pursue their dreams whether it be my daughter as an equestrian, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as a golfer, this made a lot more sense for us.”
