Katharine McPhee keeps a low profile at airport following nanny’s sudden death

Katharine McPhee tried to keep a low profile at LAX airport as she was seen for the first time following news of her son’s nanny’s sudden death.

The singer-songwriter, 39, looked somber as she made her way through baggage claim at the Los Angeles airport Friday.

For the travel day, McPhee sported gray sweatpants and a white T-shirt layered with a blue and white button-down. She completed the look with a Chanel crossbody bag, white socks, Chanel sandals, a silver and gold necklace and a cap that read “Singapore.”

Despite making eye contact with the cameras, the singer tried to pull her cap low on her face to maintain some anonymity. She was also seemingly traveling alone.

The mom of one had to leave her tour through Asia after she revealed that their family had suffered a “horrible” tragedy.

“Dearest Jakarta fans, it’s with heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final two shows of our Asia run,” the “Over It” singer announced via Instagram Friday morning.

“David [Foster] and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us need to get back home to our family. Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all. Love Katharine.”

Shortly after her announcement, it was revealed that the nanny who cared for McPhee and Foster’s 2-year-old son, Rennie, had died.

Her identity, as well as the circumstances surrounding her death, have not been revealed.

The couple reportedly considered the nanny to be “family,” explaining why McPhee rushed back home.

“We’re not, like, in any crazy rush, but, um, I hope so because I love being a mom,” she said on “The Jennifer Hudson Show.” “I really love it.”
