Kate Middleton’s Royal Duties Won’t Look as Expected in 2025 as She Is ‘Steering a New Course’ on Balancing Work and Life

Kate Middleton took plenty of time off last year to focus on her health, and while she is now cancer free, 2025 might not look quite like the previous royal years in terms of engagements.

In early 2024, Kate Middleton underwent abdominal surgery that had her out of the spotlight for two months. But just as people had stared blasting conspiracy theories about the princess, she revealed in March 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Kate took most of 2024 off, and she announced in late summer last year that she was cancer free. But people shouldn’t expect her to return to her old schedule in 2025.

Kate Middleton will reportedly strike a new balance between work and life

The Princess of Wales has officially returned to royal duties, though she did make a handful of appearances last year. She attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June 2022 as well as Wimbledon that summer, and she returned after summer to attend a few engagements with Prince William. However, people shouldn’t be so quick to assume that everything will go back to normal in 2025. According to insiders close to the princess, she might be making a more permanent change to a life of less royal work.

According to Daily Mail’s Rebecca English, “Her ordeal over the past 12 months has also inspired Catherine (and, of course, William) to steer a new course, I understand, in 2025 and beyond — one that puts greater emphasis on balancing the importance of their family.”

Sources have also told English that Kate “continues to work closely with her team at Kensington Palace and the Centre for Early Childhood.” One source also added, “It’s about pace … I think she would also prefer to confirm only when she is certain she can attend events, rather than get anyone’s hopes up and then have to pull out.”

Kate Middleton’s life could see more family and less work

Although Kate won’t stop engagements altogether, Prince William might start doing the bulk of the royal work to make sure that Kate has plenty of time for her kids. William and Kate have put a strong emphasis on being present for their children, and returning to full-time royal duties previously saw the kids spending plenty of time with nannies. Now, Kate might want to take a more hands-on approach to parenting, especially as her two older kids begin their formative pre-teen and teenage years.

William and Kate have not announced many plans for 2025 yet, though William hinted late last year that he hopes to take more trips with his wife. It’s almost certain that Kate will complete more royal engagements than she did last year, though it’s unclear what 2025’s schedule will look like.
