Find out how the Princess of Wales disproved a claim the Duchess of Sussex previously made about her.

Since stepping down from their roles as working royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made several claims about the duke’s family. The biggest targets of the Sussexes’ bashing and allegations have been King Charles, Prince William, and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton).

Because the senior royals follow the “never complain, never explain” mantra, they can’t fight back by trying to disprove the duke and duchess’s accusations with words, but they can with their actions. And that’s exactly what Kate has been doing ever since Meghan made a claim about how her future sister-in-law acted during their first meeting.

Meghan said that Kate wasn’t a hugger

On May 20, Prince William and Kate hosted a Buckingham Palace Garden Party on behalf of King Charles and were joined by several other family members, including Prince Edward and the Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly Sophie, Countess of Wessex) as well as Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall.

During the affair, Kate was seen giving hugs to some of the guests she greeted. Of course, that action of hugging makes news every time the Princess of Wales does it because of what the Duchess of Sussex said about that in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.

In the second episode of the Sussexes’ docuseries, Meghan talked about the first time she met William and Kate together when they came to Harry’s Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

According to Meghan, “When Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time, I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot.”

The former Suits star continued to detail their meeting and claimed that when she went to embrace Kate she didn’t get a warm reaction, saying: “I was a hugger, always been a hugger. I didn’t realize that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. I guess I’d start to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside. There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and you relax now. But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”

Fans pointed out how the princess again disproved the duchess’s claim

When videos of the royals interacting with guests at the garden party were shared on social media, several fans pointed out that Kate was hugging some of the attendees.

One of those in attendance was Holocaust survivor, Steven Frank, who the princess did not hesitate to hug.

“How lovely to see this. He must be so happy to have his big hug from Catherine,” one person wrote on X.

Another added, “She is a hugger!” while a third person posted, “And who said the royals didn’t hug! This is pure joy at seeing someone … not something staged for the cameras.”

Despite Meghan’s claims, Kate hugging people is not uncommon during engagements. In fact, some royal fans have nicknamed her the “Princess of hugs.”
