Jennifer Lopez and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs have a long history. The celebrities dated from 1999 to 2001 and retained a friendship after they stopped dating. Unfortunately, federal agents arrested Combs in September 2024 on charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Now, we’re looking back at a viral clip that shows Lopez stating Combs had a “problem” with her kissing other men in movies.
Jennifer Lopez said Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs had a ‘problem’ with her participating in kissing scenes in movies
Jennifer Lopez and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs dated briefly from the late ’90s to the early ’00s. Clips from those years show the couple talking about their romance. In 2011, Lopez spoke about how their relationship was “exciting at the beginning,” and they connected over their mutual love of music.
“I kept him at a distance, but then he kept calling me, and I guess it was exciting at the beginning,” Lopez told Vanity Fair in 2011. “He was from New York, I was from New York; we just kind of spoke the same language, and we both had a love of music. He sort of mentored me and was very sweet in the beginning.”
A clip posted to TikTok from MTV’s Diary documentary series gave insight into what Lopez and Combs’ romance was like behind the scenes. Lopez told the cameras that she and Combs were “angry at each other very much.” Combs then found one of Lopez’s scripts for an upcoming film.
“Ain’t no kissing going on, right?” Combs asked Lopez as she described one of the movie scenes. “There better not be no kissing.”
Lopez told Combs she’s not kissing “with tongue” or for the “whole movie.”
“Yeah, he has a problem with stuff like that,” Lopez said. “I think it’s silly. You know, kissing scenes, because I’m an actor, and I know this doesn’t mean anything. You don’t care.”
Jennifer Lopez didn’t like the hip-hop mogul when she first met him
Jennifer Lopez didn’t immediately fall for Sean “P. Diddy” Combs when they met on the set of her music video. An interview from the early 2000s posted to YouTube shows her talking about how she initially disliked him.
“He was larger than life, but at first, I didn’t like him at all,” Lopez said. “… I thought he was, like, you know, ick. I didn’t like him because Sean and I were very different that way; I was very family-oriented and kind of the married type.”
Lopez added that she and Combs “developed” a “bond” after working together. Once she got to know him, she fell for him. “We both understood where we were at that time in our lives, and we both knew nobody else understood exactly how we felt,” she said.
Wendy Williams called out Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs’ controlling behavior in 2015
After Jennifer Lopez, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs famously had a relationship with Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. Ventura sued Combs in 2023 for sexual and physical abuse. Wendy Williams from The Wendy Williams Show commented on Combs’ ability to control those he dated in 2015.
“You know, my thing about when you date a mogul is that it’s really difficult to avoid them, because if you use your head, you never know when they’re going to pop up on the scene,” Williams said, according to Page Six. “He’s a mogul! Like, he can hire a plane right now, zoom it to South Africa, land on the roof of the hotel where she’s staying, pay people off at the front desk, ‘Give me the key and let me up in her room.’”
Williams added that knowing “somebody could actually swoop down” on her “in the middle of nothing would scare the bejesus” out of her.
