Jennifer Lopez has had a lot of famous exes over the years. But there’s one music star she quipped would be too busy to ask her out, even though she’s collaborated with him a few times before.

Lopez already knew what it was like to date a singer. She was married to musician Marc Anthony for ten years before their divorce. But there was another artist that Lopez had grown extremely attached to. She and hip hop star Pitbull were frequent collaborators not too long ago, having done records like “On the Floor” and “Dance Again.” Their relationship has benefited each other both personally and professionally. Lopez credited Pitbull for helping her usher in a new phase in her career.
“One of my biggest songs ever we did, which was ‘On the Floor,’ which kind of brought me back into the public eye after I had my kids and got married, and that was just like a new moment,” Lopez said in an interview with Sirius XM. “So, he will always represent kind of the new generation of my music. He was amazing f***ing on fire at the time. And he got on my record, and I really appreciated that, because I hadn’t made records in a few years, and that was a big deal to me.”
But during an interview on The Wendy Williams Show (via E! News), Lopez was asked if she and Pitbull might’ve been more than just friends. They were, in a sense, since Lopez saw Pitbull as family. But she ruled out being in an intimate relationship with the rapper.
“He is like a brother to me,” Lopez said. “He is Mr. Worldwide, he got no time for me. He’s [got] a lot going on.”

Pitbull had similar levels of praise for Lopez. He enjoyed working with her so much that he confided he was looking for any excuse to do so. But apart from being a great collaborator, Pitbull considered her a valuable friend who reined him in when necessary. He was yet another celebrity who vouched for how generous Lopez was, which was a far cry away from her former diva reputation.
“You know how you have the angel and the devil, she’s my angel. She’s always talking to me like, ‘Why are you so wild and lose and off the chain?’ And I say, ‘Well Jennifer this is who I am,’” he said in an interview with The Talk (via E! News). “She absolutely is drop-dead gorgeous and powerful and sophisticated and militant and diligent and a hard worker and that is why Jennifer is Jennifer.”
Pitbull also felt Lopez provided his career with more opportunities.
“She opened a lot of doors for someone such as myself, so thank you, Jennifer. She knows, I always tell her when I see her,” he added.
But although the pair mostly kept things platonic between each other, Pitbull still finds himself distracted by the Hustlers star’s looks.
“So anytime I am around her, it’s ‘Wow, mama… why you so gorgeous?” Pitbull said.

Another reason why Pitbull and Lopez weren’t anything more than friends is because Lopez was already taken at the time. She was in a relationship with Alex Rodriguez, and the two were eventually engaged to be married. When it was assumed the couple would make it down the aisle together, Pitbull was asked by Access Hollywood if he’d attend the wedding.
“I might be at the bachelor’s party,” he said. “You know, Jennifer would be like, ‘Hell, no. No Pitt coming to the bachelor’s party. Nah, this is not happening. Alex, you can’t be hanging out with Pitt like that.’”
