Jennifer Garner will never forget the 2016 Oscars. She walked the red carpet alone after her split from Ben Affleck, wearing a killer Atelier Versace dress made especially for her. However, the gown also caused a hilarious bathroom emergency, leaving the actor literally breathless.

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jennifer Garner admitted achieving the glam look was challenging. “That was not easy to wear,” Garner told Fallon. “Do you know how they make it? You see, I have a waist there? I don’t have one in real life anymore.”
“There’s basically two men who come in with screw guns, and they screwed me into a metal corset. The next thing you know, my ribs were compressed. It’s so intense. There’s metal inside it, and these people just kind of move your ribs, move your liver over to the side, and they pop you in. But first, you step into a bodysuit, which is like in the bottom of a leotard, but it is a thong.”
Garner continued, “I went with one of my best girlfriends. We’ve gone to six or seven of those things together. Suddenly, my ribs started to get a panic attack. I was having a muscle spasm. Everything [inside her body] started to freak out.”
The actor painfully had to wait until a commercial break before she could go backstage and compose herself. Then, she realized she needed to use the restroom.
She enlisted her friend to pull up her dress in the stall so she could go, but there was still one more emergency to go. “The connection of the bodysuit, because it had a hook and eye situation, was in an intimate position. I couldn’t reach it. So I told my friend, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I think you’ll have to get this. And she gave it a good college try.’”

The Hollywood Reporter revealed a list of the most Googled dresses from the 2016 Oscars. Jennifer Garner was at the top of the list at her first red carpet after her split from Ben Affleck.
The custom-made Versace dress was a big hit for the actor. She paired the gown with simple diamond jewelry, including drop earrings and bracelets.
Coming in right behind Garner was Jennifer Lawrence, followed by Charlize Theron, both in Dior, Rachel McAdams in August Getty and Brie Larson in Alessandro Michele.

During one of Jennifer Garner’s last Oscars appearance as Ben Affleck’s wife, he won a golden statuette in the category of Best Picture for Argo. He paid homage to Garner during his speech in 2013.
Affleck didn’t attend the 2014 ceremony; Garner attended solo. The couple announced their split in June 2015.
As he accepted the Oscar, Affleck acknowledged the fact that a good marriage takes effort. He said, “I want to thank my wife for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It is work, but it’s the best kind of work. And there’s no one I’d rather work with.”
He continued, “I was here 15 years ago or something, and had no idea what I was doing. I stood out here in front of you all, really just a kid and I went out and I never thought I’d be back here. And I am.”
“It doesn’t matter how you get knocked down in life, because that’s going to happen. All that matters is that you got to get up. Violet, Sera and Sam, I love you. This is for you.”
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck separated in 2015. Their divorce was finalized in 2018. They share three children.
