THE coffin of singer and actress Jane Birkin is carried into a funeral flooded with stars, following her death aged 76.
French actresses Catherine Deneuve, 79, and Vanessa Paradis, 50, were among the mourners at the British-French icon’s funeral in Paris’s Saint-Roch church yesterday to pay tribute to the woman who inspired the Hermès Birkin bag.

Jane’s daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg, 52, attended with her kids Ben Attal, 26, and Alice Attal, 20 — saying of her beloved mother: “I already feel the vacuum she is leaving.”
Jane was best-known for her sexually charged duet Je T’aime . . . Moi Non Plus with Charlotte’s dad Serge Gainsbourg.

Despite its worldwide success, it was banned on the radio in several countries.
It reached number one in the UK in 1969 despite being sung in a foreign language.
“He and I became the most famous of couples in that strange way because of ‘Je t’aime’ and because we stuck together for 13 years and he went on being my friend until the day he died. Who could ask for more?” Birkin told CNN in 2006.
“So Paris became my home. I’ve been adopted here. They like my accent,” she said.
