James Remar recently revealed that he thinks Samantha Jones and Richard Wright were the best ‘Sex and the City’ couples. Fans disagree.
James Remar doesn’t think he’ll ever reprise his role as Richard Wright ever again. Remar has had an illustrious career, but Sex and the City fans likely remember him best as Samantha Jones’ brief love interest. While Samantha wasn’t one for relationships, Richard was just one of two exceptions. It didn’t end well, but despite that, Remar feels certain that his character and Samantha Jones were actually the best-matched duo of the entire series.
James Remar thinks Richard Wright and Samantha Jones were the best couple
Ask 10 Sex and the City fans what they think of Richard Wright, and most of them will lambast the hotel magnate for cheating on Samantha Jones and breaking her heart. His actions made him a villain to fans, but Remar has a very different take on his character. He doesn’t think Richard Wright was the worst boyfriend. He thinks Richard and Samantha actually made the most sense as a couple. He’s still a little annoyed that the writing team dissolved the romance.
People caught up with Remar during a recent premiere, and he opened up a bit about his time on Sex and the City. He told the publication that he didn’t think Richard Wright was the worst boyfriend on Sex and the City. He insists that Richard and Samantha, who had similar personalities, morals, and desires, actually made the most sense out of the iconic couples from the series.
Fans prefer Smith Jerrod
While James Remar thinks Samantha Jones and Richard Wright were perfectly matched, fans mostly disagree. Fans of the original series are largely in agreement that Smith Jerrod was one of the best boyfriends ever to grace the screen. He was sweet, kind, and willing to let Samantha take the lead. Smith also accepted Samantha’s shortcomings and remained patient with her despite how hard she tried to push him away.
While it is true that Smith was great to Samantha, she wasn’t always great to him. They may have been a loving couple eventually, but their vibes never exactly matched, and it was clear they both wanted very different things. Technically, we prefer Smith, but Remar has a point: Richard Wright was better suited to Samantha.
Would Remar ever return to the reboot?
James Remar enjoyed playing Richard Wright, and he said it would be hard to turn down an offer to reprise the role. Still, he doesn’t believe casting agents will be beating down his door to have him appear in And Just Like That… Remar joked that they probably don’t want him because he’s an “old guy.”
That’s not the reason Remar wouldn’t be invited back to reprise the role. The fact that the character he was linked to is no longer involved would make a comeback difficult, though. After years of backbiting comments, Kim Cattrall was not asked to be involved in the reboot. She had clarified multiple times that she no longer wished to be Samantha Jones. The rest of the cast seemed perfectly content with her departure. Still, Samantha occasionally shows up via text message. Could that be a window to bring Remar back as Richard? Anything is possible, but it seems unlikely.
And Just Like That… season 3 is currently streaming on HBO Max.
