Jake Lockett is ‘going to miss the hell’ out of ‘Chicago Fire,’ he said in an April 28 Instagram post.
Jake Lockett recently reflected on his unexpected exit from Chicago Fire, and he got some support from a fellow alum of the NBC show in the process.
Jake Lockett will ‘miss the hell’ out of ‘Chicago Fire’
Lockett, who has played Sam Carver on the firefighter drama since season 11, will not return if the show is renewed for a season 14, Deadline reported earlier in April. Daniel Kyri, who plays Darren Ritter, is also leaving the show.
On Monday, Lockett took to Instagram to address his departure.
“While I don’t exactly know what the future looks like, I do know that it won’t be exactly what it was and I am going to miss the hell out of that. So much pride in this journey,” the actor wrote. “It’s been an honor bringing Sam to life and to every one of you, thank you for the love and support over the past three years.”
“And most importantly, the people that I was on the ground with day and night… thank you for the family you are and times you have been and will be there for me,” Lockett continued. “If you’re not in one of these clips, there will be more to follow. So many cherished memories.”
Jocelyn Hudon, Rome Flynn share messages of support for ‘Chicago Fire’ cast member

Lockett’s heartfelt post generated a response from a couple of his Chicago Fire co-stars, past and present. Jocelyn Hudon, who plays paramedic Lyla Novak, simply reacted with a heart. Meanwhile, Rome Flynn assured him that everything was going to be OK.
“Jakeyyy,” he commented. “Just know the grass IS greener & you’re meant for something great. Happy I got to share the screen w you.”
“Thanks Rome,” Lockett replied. “I’m feeling that. And same! Glad to see you doing your thing out there!”
Flynn joined Chicago Fire in season 12 as Derrick Gibson. However, he exited the show later that season after just six episodes.
“Just like all the fans, I was sad to see Gibson leave. He was a character I very much enjoyed playing,” Flynn told Variety in a statement after his departure was announced. “I had a wonderful experience during my time on Chicago Fire and have great respect for the cast and crew and hope to team up with Dick Wolf again when the time is right.”
Chicago Fire airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
