Inside the $23.5 Million Mansion That Kobe Bryant Used as a Basketball Retreat With a Built-in Sneaker Museum

A stunning mansion in Arizona has hit the market. The house has some fabulous amenities including an impressive home gym. So impressive that NBA superstars, like Kobe Bryant, have used it as a retreat and their children have used it to hone their skills.

Here’s more about this home and its NBA-quality facility basketball court.

The mansion has plenty of unique features and amenities

The home is located in North Scottsdale, Arizona, and is part of the very exclusive and private Prado Estates. It’s currently on the market for $23.5 million.

So what do you get for all the cash? How about a 21,410-square-foot mansion with a secret underground state-of-the-art gym that has hosted more than 70 basketball players and a [Michael] Jordan Room filled with hundreds of the star athlete’s signature shoes. The collection is worth more than $400,000.

The listing notes that the home sits on nearly 4.5 acres. It was built in 2017 and boasts five large bedrooms, 18 bathrooms, and a separate guest house with two more bedrooms and bathrooms.

This massive abode also features a chef’s kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances and a pantry. Some of the other amenities are a movie theater, a golf simulator, and a playroom. Outside you’ll find two pools, a hot tub, fountains, a barbecue, a covered patio, a bar area, a misting system, a fire pit, and a 3/10-of-a-mile jogging track that encircles the property.

But the real star of this home is the gym and basketball court. The facility is 15 feet below ground. It has a locker room, five bathrooms, a kitchen, and a professional scoreboard. In addition, there is a private entrance and private parking for its high-profile guests.

Kobe Bryant’s daughter’s basketball team played at the property as well

According to listing agent David Newman, the current owners Brett and Susan Hardt are selling the property because they’re looking to downsize now that their children have grown up and moved out. Newman explained that the home’s basketball court served as a place for their oldest son’s youth team to practice when they were having a hard time trying to find a gym to use. Their son eventually received a full scholarship to play for DePaul University.

The impressive court has drawn the attention of several NBA players who the Hardts have hosted at the estate including the late Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, and Mikal Bridges.

Hardt shared that Shaquille O’Neal’s son, Shareef O’Neal, also trained at the practice facility as did Kobe Bryant’s daughter, Gianna Bryant, when her father was coaching the Lady Mambas basketball team. Hardt recalled the girls talking about the Jordan Room but when he offered to show them the museum, Kobe declined.

“Then it hit me,” Hardt said via the Phoenix Business Journal. “There was no way he was going to have his team go up and see a room full of shoes of a player that wasn’t him. That’s what made Kobe Kobe. Ultra competitive and he was never going to yield.”

Just five weeks after that visit, Kobe, Gianna, and seven other people were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California on Jan. 26, 2020.
