Joe Williams’ primary passion is as the singer and guitarist of his band Himalayas, a Cardiff-based group formed in 2015.

During the group’s six-year lifespan they have collaborated with Brian Johnson, the lead singer of AC/DC.

The From Hell To Here hitmakers have also penned in a diary date to support The Foo Fighters on tour next year, but Joe has told how he and his three bandmates are still keeping it real.

He told The Guardian: “I have been in various jobs throughout the six-year lifetime of the band. I’ve done service-industry stuff and now I’m working in a supermarket.”

Joe added: “We’re in jobs where we’re kind of expendable, but work gave me unpaid leave to record our second album, which was awesome.

“After four weeks on tour in Europe there’s a little bit of dread about having to go back to work on Monday, but having a job means I’m able to continue doing what I love.”

He then let slip how it was while working in his career away from fame when the band secured their biggest gig yet.

It came after Himalayas signed a worldwide deal to Nettwerk Records last year.

Joe added: “I was at work in the supermarket when I found out that we’re supporting Foo Fighters at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff next June in front of 75,000 people, the biggest show we’ve ever played.

“We’re all still in second jobs, but have recently started to glimpse a future where we won’t be working at anything other than music.

“All our employers know that’s always been the ambition, but the jobs have kept the band going and now we’re starting to do some of the amazing things we used to dream about.”

Recently, we reported how hit Eighties pop-rock band Deacon Blue had reunited for a huge London festival.

Previously, we reported how the band looked very different prior to their comeback.

Meanwhile, the gig comes amid another legendary eighties rock band reunion for Death Cult, previously known as The Cult.

In what seems a wave of recent reunions, another pop band, Talking Heads, made a rare appearance together nearly 20 years on from their bitter split.

Meanwhile, a former pop star with reality TV heritage ended up working as an electrician, wedding photographer and a fencer after his music career flopped.
