Gwen Stefani Revealed Her Favorite Blake Shelton Song

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have spoken publicly about how much they admire one another’s music. Stefani dove into Shelton’s catalog of songs after they met, and quickly considered herself a fan. She said it’s hard to pick just one favorite song, but there’s one that stands out to her.

Gwen Stefani shared her favorite song Blake Shelton wrote

Stefani said that she loves many of Shelton’s songs. There’s one song from his 2013 album Based on a True Story… that stands out to her, though.

“He’s done so much music,” Stefani said. “There’s a song called ‘Mine Would Be You.’ I love that. I was like, ‘God, that song’s so good.’ But there’s so many good ones.”

She said she loves it when he writes songs about her. She’s spent her career writing songs about other people, and now she gets to experience the other end of it.

“He’s written some amazing songs,” she said. “He wrote a song about me, [and] it was really fun to have someone write a song ‘cause I’ve written so many songs about people. But then to have one written about you is pretty exciting.”

Gwen Stefani didn’t know who Blake Shelton was before they met

In the years before Stefani and Shelton met, she had no idea who he was. Though she has made country songs with him, she didn’t listen much to the genre before him.

“I never listened to country music, so while Blake was super successful, I never even knew he existed before I met him,” she told The Guardian.

She said she now loves collaborating on music with him.

“I love singing with him,” she said. “He’s very humble and doesn’t realize how good he is. There’s something so attractive about that.”

The couple wrote together early in their relationship

Stefani and Shelton bonded over music early in their relationship. They wrote the song “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” together.

“I think he really wanted to impress me, because he doesn’t really write songs as much as he used to. And I love writing songs,” she told People. “That’s everything to me. If I want to feel like I have any kind of purpose or any kind of value or anything, it’s about writing a song. That’s where I get my fulfillment.”

She sent him her verse of the song, and they completed writing the song without being in the same room.

“He sent it to me, and it was a half-written song. He was like, ‘Help me finish this.’ So I wrote him the verse back — the second verse on the song — and it’s just over text,” she said. “That was our first song that we ever wrote together. We were never even in the same room, but we were writing a song to each other.”

They recorded the song together and have since gone on to release several songs together, including “Purple Irises” from Stefani’s latest album.
