At the time, Lovato wrote on Twitter: “I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary & will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward.”
Those who identify as non-binary do not identify as male or female and tend not to conform to gender norms.
However, Lovato announced in a statement on August 2, 2022, that she is switching her pronouns back to she/her.
“I’m still learning and coming into myself, and I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson,” Lovato said.
“Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me.”
According to Demi’s Instagram account, the singer uses both they/she pronouns.
She shared her reasons for the switch on the Spout podcast, saying she is a “fluid person,” adding: “For me, it’s just about, like, feeling human at your core.
“I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect,” they said.
