Two-time heavyweight champ George Foreman died on Friday, his family said in a statement.

Legendary boxer George Foreman has died. He was 76.

“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones,” Foreman’s family shared on Instagram. “A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”

Foreman was “a humanitarian, an Olympian, and two-time heavyweight champion of the world,” the statement continued. “He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.”

In 1968, a 19-year-old Foreman won a gold medal at the Olympics in Mexico City. He went pro soon after, eventually winning two heavyweight boxing titles. In 1974, he faced off against Muhammad Ali in the famous “Rumble in the Jungle.” Ali defeated Foreman in the fight, which was watched by millions of people worldwide.

Foreman retired from boxing in 1997. In addition to his success in the ring, he struck gold as a businessman thanks to his George Foreman Grill, which he pitched in memorable TV advertisements.

Foreman is survived by his wife and 11 children.
