Gen Z ditch karaoke classics from ABBA and Shania in favour of unlikely new tracks

HITS by Taylor Swift and Adele have replaced Abba and Shania Twain on the list of karaoke favourites.

They are even being pushed out by songs from Japanese and Korean pop stars.

Only the Backstreet Boys’ 1999 hit I Want It That Way is among the songs from years gone by in the top ten.

Brit Adele has two tracks in Apple Music Sing’s top ten — Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You, both from 2011.

American rock chick Olivia Rodrigo also has two — Vampire and Good 4 U.

Taylor’s 2022 single Anti-Hero comes in at number eight.

But the top two spots on the tech giant’s sing-a-long platform were taken by Japanese duo Yoasobi’s single Idol and South Korean girl group NewJeans’ track Ditto.

A previous survey found Brits’ favourite karaoke tunes included Abba’s Dancing Queen, from 1976, Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 hit I Will Survive and Shania Twain’s That Don’t Impress Me Much, from 1997.
