Fans ‘completely forgot who’s under all that make-up’ over Irish heartthrob’s shock transformation

HOLLYWOOD heartthrob Colin Farrell is unrecognisable as he gets back to work on set of a big budget Batman spin-off.

The Castleknock star transformed into the Penguin as he took to the streets of New York to shoot scenes for the namesake HBO series.

Colin, 47, sported a dramatically different look – wearing extra padding underneath the Penguin’s customary white shirt and black suit.

The dad-of-two also undergoes a major prosthetics transformation, with make-up and dons a receding hairline wig for his Oswald Cobblepot role.

While no plotline details have yet been released, it’s believed the massive new show will centre on Gotham City being in chaos.

And latest snaps from set appear to show a bloodied Farrell among the rubble of a possible explosion as a blaze burns in the background.

Farrell is seen alongside Craig Walker, who’s set to play Detective Marcus Wise in the much-anticipated series.

Fans were left stunned at Farrell’s latest transformation pics, with one exclaiming: “It’s wild that I completely forgot Colin Farrell is under all that makeup. All I see is Oswald ‘The Penguin’ Cobblepot.”

One more said: “I had to show photos of the process to convince my mom that it was him, great performance. Can’t wait for the show.”

Another cast member – Michael Kelly, who plays Falcone Crime family underboss Johnny Vitti in The Penguin – told how Farrell is “so freaking good” in the new series.

The eight-episode limited series kicked off filming last March before production came to a halt in June due to the strikes.

But the crew got back in action in November, and the series is set to drop later this year.

Kelly said: “I was doing The Penguin and we stopped right in the middle. I had one day left of filming, and I’m done now with that.”

He said he was “blown away” the first time he saw Farrell on set.

He said: “It’s mind-blowing man, mind-blowing and he’s so freaking good in it. He’s so good in it.”

Colin previously revealed how the second Penguin film will pick up where the show leaves off, if they get the TV series right.

He told Variety last year: “It’s going to be an eight-part thing. Around Oz’s rise to power, filling that power vacuum created when Falcone was killed.

“Matt’s idea was to have the Penguin show begin about a week after the end of the Batman film.

“And if it works, if the trajectory is interesting, and the audience goes for it, and we do our jobs right, the second Penguin feature will pick up where the HBO show will end.”
