Eurovision has made UK a laughing stock again and Olly Alexander was doomed to fail but it’s not rocket science to fix

HERE we are again – another Eurovision and another dire result for the UK.

How can a nation with such a rich musical legacy have such a bad track record?

I was in the audience in 2022 when Sam Ryder delivered his rousing anthem Space Man and propelled us to second place on the leaderboard.

But clearly we learned nothing from that, because we’ve become a laughing stock once again in the last two years.

It is a closely fought contest with belting voices, so someone with a softer sound like the UK’s Olly Alexander is never going to cut through – and no amount of thrusting on stage can make up for that.

It’s time to go back to basics and send a classically brilliant song, performed by a singer with some power in their voice.

We have mountains of talent in the UK so let’s get ourselves into gear for 2025.

It’s a song contest, not rocket science.
