Eric Trump has sent a poignant message after his father, Donald Trump, was shot in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
“Toughest man I have ever met,” Eric told Page Six of the former president, whom the Secret Service has confirmed is safe and being evaluated at a local medical facility following the incident.
Butler county District Attorney Richard Goldinger confirmed to ABC News that the shooter — who was “on the roof of an adjacent building” — is dead.
At least one rally-goer was killed and another seriously injured.
Nine shots rang out during Donald Trump’s rally on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania — nearly 35 miles away from Pittsburgh. Video shows the former US president ducking for cover before he was surrounded by secret service agents.
Donald Trump was seen exiting the stage with streaks of blood covering the side of his face as his ear was seemingly hit.
He was quickly escorted into a vehicle with secret service surrounding him on all sides, per NBC News.
Rally attendees remained at the venue for 10 minutes before they were then told that it was an active crime scene and were forced to evacuate. All those present were escorted out.
Law enforcement claimed the sniper was positioned hundreds of yards away from the president in a building which was outside of the security cordon.
Trump responded to the assassination attempt with a statement on Saturday and offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and injured.
“I want to thank the United States Secret Service, and all of law enforcement for their rapid response to the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed and also the family of another person that was badly injured,” he wrote on his Truth Social page.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper right part of my ear.”
The former president said he “knew immediately that something was wrong” when he heard “a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”
“Much bleeding took place, so i realized then what was happening.”
He closed his message with, “God Bless America.”
