Eighties pop legend looks unrecognisable with grey beard as he walks dog ahead of 40th anniversary tour

FLAME haired rock star Mick Hucknall was known for his distinctive voice and dynamite stage presence.

But recently the lead singer of Simply Red cut a solitary figure as he was pictured alone, walking his dog.

The 64-year-old was seen near his north London home wearing dark glasses and a bucket hat as he walked a small white dog.

Dressed down in a black leather jacket and beige slacks, there was no sign of his trademark red hair and instead, a greying beard appeared to be just visible.

But no doubt the Holding Back the Years singer will soon be back on magnetic form, as his chart-topping band are hitting the road again for their 40th-anniversary tour of the UK and Ireland.

The singer and songwriter who is thought to have a personal fortune of around 60 million, has a huge fanbase and no doubt thousands will flock to see the father-of-one in the flesh, who is still said to be in good voice.

But the last few years have been tricky for Mick, after he confessed to be suffering from long covid, admitting that he’s been left with palpitations and sleepless nights.

““I’ve got long Covid. I go to bed and wake up in the night with my heart going ‘ba-boom, ba-boom, ba-boom.’

“I just have to grab two or three hours sleep when I can.”

Heart palpitations and insomnia are two of the most common symptoms of Long Covid, which can last for weeks or months after the coronavirus infection has gone.

The Manchester-born singer has a fourteen year old daughter Romy with his wife Gabriella Wesbury and the family live together in London.

His last big concert was in 2022 when he packed out the O2 Arena and, no doubt, he’s itching to get back onstage again.

Simply Red, formed in 1985, were one of the biggest bands of the 1980s and ‘90s and their 1991 release Stars is one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history.

They split after performing a farewell tour in 2010 and then went on a five-year hiatus. They were sparked back into performing again by the 30th anniversary of their debut album Picture Book and reunited in 2015.
