It left fans in a panic as they speculated over the future of the tour.
During the concert in Manchester, Sam managed to perform four songs before they left the stage and the house lights went up at the AO Arena shortly afterwards.
An announcement later confirmed that the show was over.
Issuing a statement this morning, the concert promoters confirmed that shows in Glasgow and Birmingham had also been axed as a result of “vocal issues”.

The message read: “Due to vocal issues during last night’s Manchester performance, regrettably we will be cancelling the rescheduled Birmingham and Glasgow Sam Smith shows.”

They continued their statement in which a representative for Sam confirmed they had pulled out of the show on medical advice.
It said: “Refunds will be available at point of purchase for all three dates; Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.
“A spokesperson said ‘Doctors have advised due to a vocal cord injury, Sam must have complete vocal rest.
“Sam is heartbroken to have had to cancel these shows but they have been told by doctors that if they keep singing, they will do permanent damage to their voice. If they take some rest they will be able to perform again.”
Sam later added that they were “so so sorry” about the cancellation of the concerts.
However, fans were left sharing their annoyance and uncertainty with some having spent hundreds of pounds on travel and accommodation to see the singer in action.
One confused fan said of the cancelled Manchester gig: “You were perfectly fine 4 songs in and decided to cancel, not good enough. People have spent hundreds on travel/hotels and the tickets and you cancel.”
As another penned before the confirmation of the axed concerts: “If you cancel Birmingham show for Saturday you will have cost me £580 in hotels coming to see you. How is it fair to do that to fans?”
Someone else added: “We are travelling to Glasgow this evening for the already rescheduled gig… or are we?”
