Retired footballer David, 48, and former Spice Girl Victoria, 49, have applied for planning permission for the new road to their home but locals in Oxfordshire have lodged official complaints against the proposed works – insisting it will cut off the footpath.
One local said: “The council should have investigated this application more, if they had they would have discovered it is a public right of way and listed as a ‘footpath’ with Oxfordshire County Council.
“It is also listed on the Ramblers website as a public footpath with a public right of way. I trust the local authority will now look into this matter.”
Another resident said: “I believe as do many in the Great Tew and surrounding area suggest the applicants want a longer drive into their property, rather than the short drive from the lane they currently use to have access to their property

“This may be because the public have access all the way down this lane because it is a public road.”

Plans show that a footpath cuts across the top of the track which the Beckhams wish to utilise as a road.
The Manchester United icon has already received the thumbs up from planners for his greenhouse idea. They will rule on his access road application in the next few weeks.
The Sun has contacted a representative for the Beckhams for comment.
David and Victoria often spend long weekends at their Cotswolds pile after snapping it up for £6million in 2017.
They pumped cash into renovating the Grade II listed barn conversion, which has a sauna, safari tent and football pitch.
The couple previously came under fire from locals after their plans to build a huge lake.
They ended up winning approval for the council, as long as they didn’t use motorised boats on it.
It is now said to be worth £12million.
