Daddy Yankee is giving up his career as a reggaeton artist to fully devote his life to Christianity.
The “Gasolina” hitmaker revealed he was setting off on a “new beginning” to pursue his faith during the last day of his farewell tour, La Meta (The Goal), in Puerto Rico on Monday.
“Tonight, I recognize, and I am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a video of his speech.
“For many years I’ve tried filling a hole in my life that no one could fill. I tried finding a purpose, on many occasions, it seemed as if I was happy, but something was missing for me to feel complete,” Yankee continued in the clip.
The singer explained he had a hard time finding happiness despite winning several awards and having the world at his feet.
He then recited a bible verse in Spanish, saying, “What good will it be for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”
“A chapter has ended but a new one will begin,” he continued, adding he would be going by his birth name, Ramón Ayala, moving forward.
Following decades of success in the music business, the “Lo Que Pasó, Pasó” hitmaker, 46, wants to use “the tools that I have in my possession such as music, social networks, platforms, a microphone — everything that Jesus gave me — for his kingdom.”
“Just like Jesus, with his mercy, allowed me to travel the world, in your mercy, Father, I hope you allow me to evangelize the world from Puerto Rico. Amen,” Yankee concluded.

The social media clip ended by showing a light show above the arena with the words “Cristo viene,” which translates to “Christ will come” in English.
The four-time Grammy winner’s new quest was applauded by a handful of his 49 million followers.
“The search ends and the most beautiful and greatest adventure begins. Christ heals us, because time takes too long,” one person wrote.
“May God direct your journey in this new beginning!! This is what I call courage and heart!! Welcome 🙏🏻🙏🏻,” another wrote.
“Great testimony, certainly that’s the most important thing,” a third chimed in.
This is one of the first times Yankee has publicly professed his faith.
He’s been in the spotlight since he released his 2004 hit “Gasolina” and later went on to release “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber and Luis Fonsi in 2017.
The singer embarked on his La Última Vuelta World Tour last summer and walked away with more than $125 million, per Billboard’s Year-End Boxscore Chart.
