Some royal watchers are sharing what they think the Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix Christmas special should be called, and one name just got everyone’s attention.
Along with the trailer for Season 2 and a premiere date for Meghan Markle‘s lifestyle show, Netflix also announced that the Duchess of Sussex will also host a Christmas special that will be released on the streaming platform just in time for the holiday.
A statement from Netflix said: “This December, join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration. Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs — with simple how-tos to follow at home. It’s a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy.”
The show will reportedly be called With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. But some commentators have been coming up with more, let’s say creative, titles and one in particular could either make you blush or laugh out loud.
Here’s more on what a royal expert thinks Meghan’s Christmas special should be called, and why some fans are now accusing the former Suits star of copying another member of the royal family.
Royal fans accuse Meghan of trying to compete with a royal’s Christmas special
Following the announcement about Meghan’s Christmas special, some fans accused Prince Harry’s wife of trying to compete with the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton).
Meghan’s sister-in-law previously collaborated with Mary Berry on the holiday cooking program A Berry Royal Christmas special. And the Princess of Wales also has her annual carol service, titled Royal Carols: Together At Christmas, broadcast just before Christmas Day.
Fans sounded off on X about the Duchess of Sussex’s decision to do her own Christmas special now, with one person writing: “Anything to compete with Catherine. A December holiday special, really?”
“A Christmas special?!” another fumed. “Good grief, is there NOTHING Meghan won’t attempt to do better than Catherine, Princess of Wales — and fail MISERABLY at? Just when I thought we would take up a Netflix subscription again.”
A third wrote: “Meghan’s ‘Christmas Special’ may clash with the Princess of Wales ‘Together at Christmas’ concert?! Oh I am in no doubt that Meghan would push for that date specifically!”
And a fourth posted: “So just like Princess Catherine’s holiday special then! The difference is Meghan has no royals or family attending hers!”
Royal commentator and To Di For Daily podcast host Kinsey Schofield insisted that Meghan was trying to”hijack” the holiday.
Fellow commentator Rupert Bell was a guest on Schofield’s YouTube channel and said, “I’m not sure how Meghan is going to elevate Christmas. I am sure it will be beautifully shot — it will be schmaltzy.”
“It will be commercialized,” Schofield interjected and opined that it will “hijack the birth of Jesus Christ” for “[Meghan] to sell another bottle of rosé or a fruit spread.”
Schofield also shared with Talk TV host Jeremy Kyle what she thinks Meghan’s Christmas special should be called.
“I was gonna go with ‘Ho, ho, ho’” Scholfield exclaimed, leaving Kyle howling in laughter.
