While fans have been singing “get low when the whistle blow”, Francis, who also goes by the moniker DJ Hanzel, says they should have instead been singing “get low when the whistle go”.

“Ten years later, I’m here to set the record straight,” Francis says on TikTok.

“Get low when the whistle go – not blow. You could have just googled the lyrics but you chose not to – because you’re a f***ing idiot.

“We were making Get Low, I was in Paris France with DJ Snake, before he was wearing sunglasses all the time.

“We were in a studio, I think we were just trying to figure out what the vocal would be.

“I think I went and got a big roll of Babybel cheese and I remember I actually threw it through someone’s window, on a hot Paris night, and we’ve never laughed so hard in our lives.

“Because we knew someone was going to wake up to a melted Babybel on their floor.

“But that didn’t help us get to where we wanted to in terms of finding out what the lyrics would be.

“I think I left Paris sad and feeling helpless, and one day I was taking a shower and I came up with the incredible, undeniable vocals, get low when the whistle go.’

Get Low was the lead single on Francis’s debut album Money Sucks, Friends Rule, and was released in February 2014.
