Candace Bushnell excited for Kim Cattrall’s ‘Sex’ return — ‘There was a piece missing’

“Sex and the City” creator Candace Bushnell is as excited as the rest of us that Kim Cattrall is coming back to reprise her iconic role as Samantha Jones on “SATC” spin-off “And Just Like That” — because, she says, “there was a piece missing” from the series.

“When I heard the news I was happy and surprised. The fans love Kim and I think it will be great for the show. There was a piece missing. She was a major part of that girlfriend circle,” she told Page Six.

Cattrall, 66, had vowed that she wouldn’t reunite with the other stars of the HBO classic, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis, after appearing the second feature film in 2010.

But this week, the Post revealed that the actress had filmed scenes as the sex-crazed publicist that are expected to appear as “cliffhanger” scenes at the end of the Max show’s second season.

“I think will be a great season,” Bushnell told us, “I’m happy that Kim is going to go on there. I think it’s probably the greatest thing for the show. A lot of people miss Samantha.”

Parker, Nixon and Davis all appeared in the show’s first season, which premiere in December 2021.

Cattrall has been engaged in a feud with Parker for years, which has occasionally spilled out in to public.

There are scant details about Cattrall’s appearance, but a source told the Post that her scene was filmed in March in a car in a parking garage near Silvercup Studios in Queens, where interiors for the series are shot.

Meanwhile, Bushnell says she’s also excited to see Aiden Shaw, played by John Corbett, return. The character, who was engaged to lead character Carrie Bradshaw, is also back for the second season.

“It’s so real to me,” said Bushnell. “It is like an ex-boyfriend could come back into your life. It is that the one who got away, so I think that’s interesting.”

Bushnell wrote the original “Sex and The City” column for The New York Observer before writing a book of the same name, which was the basis for the HBO hit series “Sex and the City” and two movies.

Season 2 will premiere on Max with 11 episodes on June 22.
