‘Call Her Daddy’ host Alex Cooper details how fiancé Matt Kaplan proposed

Alexandra “Alex” Cooper is detailing the deeply personal yet incredibly romantic way her now-fiancé, Matt Kaplan, proposed to her.

In an interview with W Magazine published Monday, Cooper revealed that Kaplan actually worked with her publicist to set up what she thought was going to be her accompanying photo shoot for the publication’s story.

“I remember the shoot feeling like it had no direction, and I could tell everyone was stalling,” the “Call Her Daddy” podcast host recalled, admitting that the plan kept her “out of the house, out of [her] sweatpants, and in hair, makeup, and nails.”

“When I came home that night, my entire house was covered in candles, lit all over, music playing, and a scavenger hunt leading to Matt proposing,” the 28-year-old gushed.

Cooper said Kaplan — the 39-year-old CEO of production company Ace Entertainment, whom she has only ever referred to as “Mr. Sexy Zoom Man” — placed “photos or mementos” that they’ve collected throughout their three-year-relationship in “every room” of their shared Studio City, Calif., mansion.

“The last clue was a glass of champagne and a card that said, ‘Meet me down by the Buddha,’” she shared, explaining that they both felt it would be “such bad luck” to remove the “500-pound Buddha [statue]” that the previous owner plopped in the home’s courtyard.

Upon making her way down there, Cooper was greeted by their “two dogs in little bow ties.”

Then Kaplan “got down on one knee and said, ‘You’re my soulmate, the love of my life. You make me a better man. Please do me the honor of marrying me,’” and presented the media personality with a massive, vintage 1920s oval-cut diamond ring.

Though she remembers saying “yes,” Cooper admitted she “blacked out” during the “very surreal” moment, which took place on March 3.

Page Six broke the news of the pair’s engagement last week.

Cooper met Kaplan — who most recently produced the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” film franchise — via a Zoom business call in 2020.

They quickly started dating and he changed her view on marriage.

“So many marriages in my life are so unhealthy and unstable. A lot of people settle, and I refuse to do that,” she told W.

“But with Matt, it immediately was obvious to me, once our relationship progressed to the point that it was time, that yes, I would love to marry him.”

Cooper said she relayed that message to Kaplan while on a date last November and described his reaction as “beaming.”
