Brooke Shields nearly drove into wall during ‘very bad’ postpartum depression

Brooke Shields feared she would “drive [her] car into a wall on” California’s 405 freeway during her “very bad” postpartum depression.

The actress had stopped her medication “cold turkey” prior to the episode, she told “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast listeners Monday.

“I started just feeling more myself so I went off … because clearly I was a doctor by that point,” the “Endless Love” star joked.

The 57-year-old, who suffered from PPD after giving birth to daughter Rowan, now 19, in 2003, called her doctor from the car during the “terrifying” experience.

“I thought I was going to drive my car into the wall on the 405,” she recalled. “You see it [happening].

“It has pictures,” she continued. “They rush, if you close your eyes, into your brain.”

Shields’ doctor stayed on the phone with her until she arrived home, saying, “You’re going back on the medicine immediately.”

The “Suddenly Susan” alum, who is also the mother of daughter Grier, 16, was initially resistant to taking medication for her depression since she thought she could “fix [her]self.”

However, the model’s family members and friends begged her to get help.

“It was so bleak,” Shields said. “My mother-in-law called me and said I had dead eyes. I finally said OK to get everybody off my back.”

The “Lipstick Jungle” alum, who describes her experience in her two-part “Pretty Baby” documentary on Hulu, first spoke about PPD in her 2006 memoir, “Down Came the Rain.”

Tom Cruise subsequently slammed Shields, telling Access Hollywood that the “irresponsible” new mom should have turned to “vitamins and exercise” instead.

She clapped back at his “ridiculous rant” at the time.

“I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression,” Shields wrote in a statement.

The “Blue Lagoon” star explained on Monday that she was “completely biochemically imbalanced” after giving birth.

She admitted that she “beat [her]self up for a long time” over the bond her husband, Chris Henchy, developed with Rowan while she struggled.

Shields gushed about her daughters in the interview, calling them “very much their own people.”

Rowan and Grier “did not know about” some of the darker elements of the documentary until watching it, she told People.

The show, which centers around the sexualization Shields endured as a young actress, also includes candid details about her rape by a Hollywood exec in her 20s, her virginity loss to Dean Cain and more.
