Biggest selling vinyl of the century unveiled…and it’s not a Taylor Swift album

FLEETWOOD Mac’s classic album Rumours is the best-selling vinyl record of this century.

The LP, which includes hits including Dreams and Go Your Own Way, first went to No1 in 1977.

It has since sold 40 million copies worldwide — and is now top of the charts again following a vinyl revival, selling 280,000 copies on the format this millennium.

The rest of the Top Five are Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of the Moon, Nevermind by Nirvana, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis and Queen’s Greatest Hits.

The list was compiled by the Official Charts Company for Greatest Hits Radio as part of its Vinyl Revival Day today.

Songs from the albums will play on the station all day, with DJs including Ken Bruce talking about their own vinyl memories.

Ken, 73, said: “I’m a huge admirer of Fleetwood Mac and not remotely surprised to see Rumours at the top of this chart — it’s one of their finest.

I’m looking forward to turning back the clock a few years and dropping that needle on some of my favourite tracks.”
