When asked what she learned from her years with Jay-Z, Beyoncé had a straightforward answer.
“That we’re all human,” she said.
She said she wanted a partner with whom she could weather difficult times. This was one of the most important characteristics she looked for in a husband.
“I don’t care if you’re picture-perfect on every magazine cover, and you’re the most handsome, successful, coolest guy – you still get sad, and you still get your feelings hurt, and you still get confused and vulnerable and nervous and scared,” she said, per NBC Washington. “You have to find a person you can make it through the tough times with.”
She also said that Jay-Z saw the most vulnerable version of herself. She believed this was necessary for a solid relationship.
“So you have to make sure it’s real, and you have to make sure you are honest, that you can be yourself, and find somebody who loves you – not the fantasy of you, but who you really are.”
Beyoncé said she didn’t want to marry Jay-Z right away
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been together for the entirety of her adult life. She didn’t feel any pressure to get married right away.
“I was 18 when we first met, 19 when we first started dating,” Beyoncé said “There was no rush — no one expected me to run off and get married.”
She thought it was important to get to know each other well, especially because she was so young.
“I really don’t believe that you will love the same thing when you’re 20 as you do at 30. So that was my rule: before the age of 25, I would never get married,” she said. “I feel like you have to get to know yourself, know what you want, spend some time by yourself, and be proud of who you are before you can share that with someone else.”
She reportedly feels devastated by the recent allegations against him
Recently, Jay-Z was named in a lawsuit. It alleges that he and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped a 13-year-old girl at a party. The news has reportedly devastated Beyoncé.
“Beyoncé isn’t in a good place at all and is surrounded by her mother and other friends at their home in LA,” a source told the Daily Mail. “She has cancelled some surprise promotional appearances. Jay has reassured her that he isn’t guilty of anything and is infuriated that his friendship with Diddy has dragged him into this.”
