BBC radio legend left £1million in will after sudden death this year

TRAILBLAZING Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale left just over £1million in her will, we can reveal.

The pioneering presenter, who was the first female host on the station in 1970, died at home in London in January aged 83 after a short illness.

She left her entire estate — ­valued at £1,061,543 — to her two children, Alex and Lucy, ­documents show.

They were also charged with distributing her possessions according to her wishes.

Annie was Radio 1’s longest-serving broadcaster and held the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a female radio presenter.

She also presented the BBC’s Old Grey Whistle Test.

Annie was made a CBE for services to radio in the 2020 New Year ­Honours, having been made an MBE in 2002.

In a statement issued at the time of her death, her family said: “Annie was a pioneer, trailblazer and an inspiration.

“Her impulse to share that enthusiasm with audiences remained undimmed after six decades of broadcasting.”

The Who’s frontman Roger Daltrey, The Chemical Brothers and DJs Nick Grimshaw and Pete Tong were at her memorial in May.
