A statement an Instagram page confirmed the sad news in a post Thursday evening.

It reads: “‘The spark has gone but the love lives on’ We are devastated to tell you that our beloved Angela McCluskey has left us to be with her fellow angels.

“Never did anyone live life more fully, love more generously, sing more….well, just….more. Angela sang just as she breathed. Her life was a song, and she was music.

“She will be missed more than any of us can say, but our love for her and her love for her beloved Paul, her siblings Gerard, Alan and Muriel, and all her family and friends will live forever. Please light a candle for our darling.”

A GoFundMe is now raising money for “practical bits” as her family and husband Paul Cantelon go through a difficult period.

They are seeking to raise $85,000 (USD) as they also plan to “celebrate Angela’s life and share her musical legacy.”

It reads: “There is no other way to begin this other than to say that our beloved Angela has left us.”

“We are naturally worried about her dear Paul but we will help him pick up the pieces; just know that he is surrounded with love and, in time, will be okay.”

Stars such as Rain Phoenix and Garbage singer Shirley Manson have paid tribute to Angela on social media.

Phoenix, 51, said: “Rest in power dear Angela … a generous no nonsense powerhouse, with effortless style, wicked humor, and a voice most beautiful- there will never be another.”

Shirley said in an Instagram story:  “Darling….I’m brokenhearted. A Scottish treasure. A world class talent.

“A wildly irreverent, generous, loving soul who practiced kindness at all times in all the dark places. I love you.

“My sincere condolences to everyone who loves you. Especially to your handsome prince Paul.”

Angela and Paul had put together the Wild Colonials in 1992 with Scott Roewe and guitarist Shark.

But it was for the her vocals on the track Breathe in 2002 that she will be remembered by most people for.

The song reached number 42 on the UK singles chart in the Hot 100 chart in the US.

She launched her solo career in 2004 with an album called The Things We Do.

Angela was from Dennistoun, Glasgow and was said to be pals with Hollywood stars Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder after moving to LA in 1993

Angela had been previously caught in a row with rapper Kendrick Lamar when he allegedly lifted her music for a track.

But she decided not to take legal action over the incident.

She said at the time: “Kendrick was kind of fly. He changed the title and sang over my song.

“Universal were going to try to sue him and I said, ‘No, he’s really good’.

“It was one of the first things he had done. I think it was really clever.”
