Alicia Silverstone will reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a ‘Clueless’ reboot for Peacock. It’s unclear what storyline the original series will follow.

It is official: Clueless fans will get to reconnect with Cher Horowitz. Cher, the spoiled daughter of a wealthy lawyer, isn’t a high school student anymore, and she won’t be gracing the big screen. Instead, Peacock is developing a series based on the beloved 1995 movie.

Peacock is currently developing a series that will draw inspiration from Clueless. On April 17, Variety reported Peacock’s plan to resurrect the cult classic as a series. According to the publication, Peacock is already developing the script and has pulled in the talents of Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original movie, for the project. Heckerling will serve as an executive producer. Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss are signed on as writers.

After the announcement, Alicia Silverstone took to Instagram to confirm she was absolutely all-in on the series. She wrote that she was “totally buggin’,” a term her clueless character used decades ago as a high school student. The storyline for the upcoming series remains unclear, but Silverstone will be reprising her role and will also serve as an executive producer.

What about the rest of the ‘Clueless’ cast?

While Cher was undoubtedly the focus of the flick, the rest of the cast was equally iconic. Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya rounded out the cast. Dash played Cher’s best friend,  Dionne Davenport, while Murphy took on the role of Ty Frasier, a transfer student whom Cher and Dion take under their wing. It’s unclear who else, if anyone, is planning to return.

Breckin Meyer, who famously played Travis in the film, has largely stepped away from acting in recent years. Donald Faison, best known for his work on Scrubs, is still acting but hasn’t commented on this upcoming project. Paul Rudd, among the cast’s most recognizable members, has several projects in the works at the moment. Rudd portrayed Cher’s love interest, Josh, but has not revealed whether he’ll be involved in the reboot. Dash hasn’t commented on the project. Murphy tragically died in 2009.

The cult classic isn’t the only reboot in the works

While Peacock focused on developing a robust catalog filled with fan favorites when it first launched, the streaming service provider has focused more intently on original content in the last few years. Now, it’s setting its sights on reboots of beloved series to help it compete with other streaming companies.

Clueless isn’t the only reboot in the works. According to Show Snob, Peacock is also working on a reboot of Friday Night Lights. The original cast is not attached to the project. Peacock has also announced a reboot of the supernatural drama Grimm. The reboot will reintroduce the show’s unique blend of folklore and crime procedural elements. Storyline information has not been released.
