‘Alf’ child star Benji Gregory dead at 46 after being found in parking lot

“Alf” actor Benji Gregory was found dead in a Chase Bank parking lot in Arizona last month. He was 46 at the time of his death.

The former child star’s sister, Rebecca, confirmed Gregory’s death on Wednesday, TMZ reports.

His cause of death is still pending.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s office lists Gregory’s date of death as June 13 on his death certicate, per the outlet.

Rebecca reportedly said that Gregory suffered from depression, bipolar disorder and had a sleep disorder that would typically force him to stay awake for days.

The outlet also claims sources close to the actor believe he was at the bank in Peoria, AZ, on June 12 to deposit his residual acting checks from his time on the famed NBC sitcom when he fell asleep in his car and died of a heatstroke due to the area’s severe summer weather.

Gregory was accompanied by his service dog Hans. The dog also died in the car.

His sister went on to say that their family is grieving Gregory’s loss and that they appreciate the thoughts and well wishes during the difficult time.

She suggested that fans of the late actor could place donations in Gregory’s name to causes that he would support such as the The Actors Equity Foundation or the ASPCA.

Gregory became a household name during his time as Brian Tanner on “Alf.” He starred in 101 episodes. The series aired from 1986 to 1990.

He also held guest starring roles on “The A-Team” and “The Twilight Zone” in the ’80s and appeared in a TV pilot, “Fenster Hall,” a Disney movie, “Mr. Boogedy,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”

He stepped away from Hollywood in 2003 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became an aerographer’s mate. He was honorably discharged in 2005.

His co-star Michu Meszaros, who played Alf, died in 2016 at the age of 76, and Max Wright, who starred as the father on the series, died in 2018 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 75.
