Al B. Sure! is talking about his relationship with Kim Porter in light of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ trial. Here’s what he said about doubting Porter’s cause of death in 2018.
Kim Porter’s life was intricately linked to two prominent figures in the entertainment world: Al B. Sure! and hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. A model and actor, Porter first gained public attention through her relationship with R&B singer Al B. Sure!, with whom she had her first son, Quincy. Later, her long and complex relationship with Combs would come to define much of her public and personal legacy. Sadly, Porter died in 2018 of lobar pneumonia. Here’s what Al B. Sure! said in 2025 about how he “absolutely” does not believe that pneumonia killed Porter.
Al B. Sure! cast doubt on how Kim Porter died
Al B. Sure!, the R&B singer and producer known for his smooth vocals and late-’80s chart-toppers, shared a formative and deeply personal chapter of his life with Kim Porter. Their relationship in the early 1990s not only made headlines but also resulted in the birth of their son, Quincy. Though their romantic bond eventually ended, Al B. Sure! has spoken in recent years with renewed emotion about the love and history they shared — especially following Porter’s untimely death in 2018.
On May 9, 2025, Al B. Sure! spoke on Fox 5 NY’s Good Day New York about his upcoming memoir, Do You Believe Me Now?, which includes insight regarding Sean “Diddy” Combs and Porter. While on the morning news program, the R&B singer admitted that he has doubts regarding Porter’s cause of death.
Al B. Sure! said Porter gave him warnings, as she was “trying to save” him from Combs. The singer said Porter told him to “watch” his “back,” though he didn’t understand why at the time.
When the conversation turned to Porter’s death, Al B. Sure! was asked if he believed she died of pneumonia.
“Absolutely not,” he answered. “She was in the best health. We just saw each other prior to her passing. We were actually celebrating our son’s new Netflix Christmas special. She was doing just fine. In fact, we were all at the event together at Netflix in the lobby, Sean [Combs], myself, the children, you know, having a great time. And I’m [playfully] grabbing Sean. And she’s in the back going, stop! So, it was a really festive opportunity for all of us to be together. Because it’s nothing like the circus that’s out here.”
Al B. Sure!’s memoir, Do You Believe Me Now?, is set for release on Sept. 9, 2025.
