Adan’s career beginnings
At the age of 16, Canto moved out of his family to pursue a career in music.
After working with Studio M, he was successful in San Antonio as a singer-songwriter.
He was the lead singer of the jazz group Del Canto for five years during his time as a musician in Mexico City.
Canto wrote and produced a number of songs for Mexican movies and television shows.
He made his acting debut in a few Mexico City advertisements before landing a role in the television series Estado de Gracia.
After landing the lead role in Pedro Almodóvar’s All About My Mother, Canto eventually moved to theater.

About Adan Canto, continued
Held in the arms of José-Luis Narváez, a dentist, and Marlyn Canto-Narváez, a homemaker and singer, Canto was born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico.
Canto was born and reared in Mexico, but as a child, he traveled over the border every day to attend an American Catholic school in Del Rio, Texas.
His father was a charro, and he spent his childhood riding horses at his grandfather’s estate in Acuña.
At the age of seven, Canto started singing on stage thanks to his mother’s support.
He grew up hearing traditional boleros and mariachi music, and during his adolescence, he performed in and around his home state.

Adan Canto was a Mexican actor, who played Paul Torres in the Fox drama series The Following, AJ Menendez in the ABC prime-time series Blood & Oil, and Sunspot in the 2014 superhero movie X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Prior to his passing, he starred on Fox’s The Cleaning Lady, as well as the Netflix drama series Narcos, Aaron Shore on ABC/Netflix’s political thriller Designated Survivor, and Rodrigo Lara Bonilla on Netflix.
2014 saw Canto write and direct his debut short film, Before Tomorrow.
In 2020, his short film The Shot won multiple festival prizes, including Best Narrative Short Film.
