Michael Ilesanmi is clearing the air.
The 90 Day Fiancé star recently spoke out about his legal battle with estranged wife Angela Deem. He also addressed “untrue” rumors that he was communicating with other women and using money raised through a GoFundMe for personal expenses.
In June 2024, Angela filed for an annulment of her marriage to Michael, whom she wed in a 2020 ceremony in Nigeria. She claims he “fraudulently induced” her into the relationship for the purpose of obtaining a green card.
In August, Michael responded by requesting a divorce. In his filing, he claimed that Angela was physically and mentally abusive. Michael said that he did not abandon his marriage when he left her Georgia home in February 2024 but rather fled “for his own safety.”
On Sept. 22, Michael shared an update on the divorce/annulment proceedings on his Instagram.
“As is widely known, I’m currently involved in litigation with my estranged wife, Angela Deem, in the family court of Jeff Davis County, Georgia,” he said in a statement. “These proceedings involve both annulment proceedings and my own filings for dismissal and a counter-claim for divorce. At present, there are no active court dates as both parties are in the early stages of pre-trial discovery.”
“Your support means more than you know as I navigate this emotionally difficult period,” he added. “However, I hope you understand that I cannot discuss the details of the case beyond what is already public.”
’90 Day Fiancé’ star refutes rumors about relationships with other women
In the lengthy statement, Michael went on to refute speculation that he was involved with women other than Angela. While he had “engaged in communication with women who had reached out to me in the past,” he said, those conversations never led to in-person meetings or personal contact.
“It is clear I am being targeted,” Michael said, implying that Angela was behind the rumors. However, he said he would not “stoop to the level of retaliating against my former partner in an attempt to discredit her.”
“I genuinely wish Ms. Deem nothing but the best and hope she finds peace in her life, regardless of the vicious attacks she has launched and continues to pursue against me,” Michael added.
The TLC personality also denied rumors that he’d been using money donated to his GoFundMe to pay for personal expenses. The proceeds were “being used strictly for the intended purpose of covering legal costs.”
Since filing for an annulment, Angela has taken to slamming Michael on social media. In a TikTok video, she called his GoFundMe “unacceptable” and warned Americans that they were being “scammed.”
Another video did not mention Michael directly but appeared to be aimed at her ex.
“Have you ever ever ever heard the saying ‘You met your match?’” she said in the Sept. 2 Instagram post. “Well, I’m not saying that. What I’m saying to you, is you haven’t met your match, you met someone that’s overqualified.”
