4 Times the ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Editors Hilariously Called Out the Cast

Every season, the Vanderpump Rules cast got into screaming matches, called out liars, and dissed each other in the confessionals. Hardly anyone could walk out of a season unscathed. They even faced insults in the way the show was edited. Here are four examples of the editors putting the Vanderpump Rules cast in their places.

Jax Taylor’s life flashing before his eyes

On a season six trip to Big Bear Lake, Jax Taylor attempted to swim out to a buoy. Perhaps due to the elevation, Taylor began to experience chest pains and realized he wouldn’t be able to swim back on his own. As he waited for the lifeguard to help him, Taylor said he watched his life flash before his eyes.

“Literally, I’m like, [expletive], I’m going to die,” he said in a confessional. “And my life flashbacks in my head.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly given Taylor’s behavior on the show, the editors had a field day putting together scenes of what he may have seen in that moment.

They showed a clip of the moment he crashed former girlfriend Stassi Schroeder’s birthday party and got into a fistfight in the parking lot, and a separate fight in which his friend, Tom Sandoval, punched him in the face. He also might have reflected on former girlfriends calling him an “a**hole,” or when he faced the repercussions of theft and infidelity. It all led up to the moment he decided to go for a swim.

He got out of the water unscathed, but the edit months later likely stung.

James Kennedy’s DJ set at World Dog Day

In the show’s fifth season, the cast attends World Dog Day, an event thrown by Vanderpump. Despite James Kennedy’s consistent record of getting in trouble with Vanderpump, he DJs the event. Before long, though, he lands in hot water when Vanderpump and her husband, Ken Todd, learn Kennedy was involved in a confrontation at their restaurant, Pump, that ended with him being placed in a headlock.

Kennedy chalked the incident up to jealousy of his DJ career.

“I don’t want to sound cocky, but I’m young, I’m good looking, I’m a f***ing DJ in Los Angeles,” Kennedy says in a confessional. “[I’m] f***ing killing the game.”

Immediately following this confessional, the show cuts to a scene of Kennedy at Dog Day.

“Will the owner of a Toyota please head to the DJ booth? I found your keys,” he announces to the crowd. “It’s got a Mickey Mouse key on it. Owner of a Toyota, I’ve got your keys.”

Kennedy also reminds attendees to pick up their dogs’ poop. It immediately undercuts the boasting about his killer career.

Kristen Doute’s engagement party speech

In season four of the show, Kristen Doute attended Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney’s engagement party at Lisa Vanderpump’s house, against the wishes of Vanderpump. When the host asked if anyone wanted to say a few words, however, Doute volunteered. What followed was a brutal montage of Doute giving an awkward, rambling, and extremely long speech.

Interspersed between bits of her speech were scenes from one of Sandoval’s confessionals. Her former boyfriend said the moment showed her lack of “self-awareness.”

To add insult to injury, scenes from the engagement party included Schroeder saying Doute was “unburdened” by the “anchors” of “self-respect and dignity,” and a shot of Doute’s shoes, which Lala Kent said she hated.

Scheana Shay’s relationship with Rob Parks-Valletta visibly annoying the ‘Vanderpump Rules’ cast

Following her divorce, Scheana Shay debuted a relationship with Rob Parks-Valletta. During season six, much of Shay’s screen time shows her bragging about her new beau, who is portrayed as much, much less interested in her. The cast visibly braces themselves every time Shay brings up her relationship.

“Everybody buckle your seatbelts, we’re about to go on a Rob and Scheana ride,” says Brittany Cartwright in a confessional after Shay brings up Parks Valletta at a dinner.

What follows is a brutal montage of Shay at the restaurant bringing up everything she loves about Parks-Valletta. The show then cuts back to a previous moment when she said the exact same things. Often, word for word. At the end of the montage, she begs her irritated cast mates to listen to what she’s saying.
