An upcoming ‘The Big Bang Theory’ spinoff will focus on Stuart, Bert, and Denise. The main cast members of the original series are not attached to the spinoff.

The Big Bang Theory might have wrapped up its final episode in 2019, but the universe it created lives on. Since the series finale, two spinoffs have aired, and a third one is on the way. While Chuck Lorre isn’t sharing many details about the upcoming The Big Bang Theory spinoff for Max, we know which characters will appear.

Four characters from ‘The Big Bang Theory’ universe will appear in a new spinoff

Chuck Lorre struck gold with The Big Bang Theory. Now, he’s committed to building out the show’s universe. The famed show creator won big for a second time with Young Sheldon and is currently succeeding with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. He plans to try his luck with a spinoff focusing on the original series’ peripheral characters.

According to TV Line, the top-secret The Big Bang Theory spinoff expected to land at Max will focus on the characters of Stuart Bloom, Denise, and Bert Kibbler. Barry Kripke will also likely appear. While we know what characters we can expect to reconnect with, the spinoff’s premise is being kept under wraps.

Stuart owned the comic book store where the gang hung out during the original series. He later became a member of the group, although he wasn’t exactly always welcome. Denise appeared for the first time in season 11 of The Big Bang Theory as Stuart’s assistant at the store. They later begin dating. Bert was a geology professor at Caltech who appeared numerous times throughout the original series. It is unclear how Bert is connected to Stuart and Denise. Barry Kripke, a physicist at Caltech, is likely linked to Bert’s storyline.

None of the original prominent cast members are attached to the spinoff at the moment. That doesn’t mean they won’t show up eventually, though. Several stars, including Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik, and Kaley Cuoco, have stated they are open to reprising their roles. Parsons famously portrayed Sheldon Cooper. He took on a role in Young Sheldon, too. Bialik and Cuoco portrayed Amy Farrah Fowler and Penny, respectively.

When will the ‘The Big Bang Theory’ spinoff debut?

While we have a general idea of what characters will be included in the spinoff, Lorre and Max are keeping most other information under wraps, including when fans can expect to see the series. While the show was initially announced in April 2023, the SAG-AFTRA strike and other issues delayed further development. Nearly two years later, we are being treated to some fun morsels of information; we just don’t know when to expect the show.

Neither Max nor Chuck Lorre has offered a potential release date. Still, it will likely be a while before fans catch up with the peripheral characters of The Big Bang Theory in the upcoming spinoff. It’s not uncommon for new projects to have relatively long lead times at the streaming service provider. So, while there is a possibility that fans might see the series in 2025, 2026 seems like a more realistic timeline if Max does ultimately opt to move forward with another The Big Bang Theory spinoff.
