1 Royal Did Not Attend Kate Middleton’s Carol Service, and Everyone Is Wondering Why

Kate Middleton has returned to royal duties, and her Together at Christmas service was her biggest event of the year. However, one royal was noticeably absent from the audience.

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made waves on December 6 when she hosted her fourth annual “Together at Christmas” carol service, which is an event that has become close to her heart in recent years. The princess was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, so the service held even more meaning, and it was truly her way of coming back into her royal duties.

While many royals were there to support Kate, one royal was noticeably absent — and it had many people wondering what happened.

Princess Eugenie did not attend Kate Middleton’s carol service

Kate first launched her “Together at Christmas” service back in 2021. It has quickly become a new royal tradition, and it’s filmed and broadcast on British television during the Christmas holiday. Last year, it was Kate’s last public appearance before she underwent surgery, then chemotherapy, for what she would later reveal was cancer in her abdominal region.

While many royals gathered at this year’s carol service, one royal was noticeably absent: Princess Eugenie. She is Prince William’s cousin, and her sister, Princess Beatrice, was in the crowd. People couldn’t help but wonder why the royal and her family chose not to support Kate.

However, it likely didn’t have anything to do with bad blood but rather had more to do with Eugenie’s almost-built home in Portugal, which could be where she is with her husband, Jack Brooksbank. Express reports that Eugenie and Jack were likely tending to their Portugal vacation home, which is in the process of being built. A source previously told the outlet that Eugenie and Jack’s new home is an “investment” and that the construction “hasn’t even been completed yet.” Although it’s unclear if that was the true reason, it would make sense if Eugenie and Jack were out of town.

Kate Middleton will likely take on more royal duties in 2025

The Princess of Wales took most of 2024 off from royal duties in order to focus on her health. While she is now cancer free, she has slowly re-introduced herself to the royal spotlight as she continues to fully recover from her cancer and its treatment.

William previously said that he and Kate will probably have some trips planned for 2025, hinting that Kate will likely make a fuller royal return at the start of the new year.

2024 proved to be a year of challenges for the royal family, but it also gave Kate a chance to reflect on where she puts her focus. She has centered much of her focus on work-life balance and family, ensuring that her children are given as normal of an upbringing as possible.
