McConkey participated in Georgia’s scout team while wearing a redshirt during his time there.

In his first season as a true freshman, McConkey recorded five touchdown catches and finished with 28 receptions for 430 yards.

He scored his first touchdown of his collegiate and professional careers against Vanderbilt. In addition, McConkey scored a touchdown by running the ball. After the 34-10 victory over Auburn, in which he had one reception for 135 yards and one touchdown, he was given the Freshman of the Week award by the Southeastern Conference. McConkey started all seven of Georgia’s games while participating in all of the Bulldogs’ contests.
