Drew Barrymore Tells Seal There Were Probably A Lot Of Babies Made To ‘Kiss From A Rose’: “I Bet There Was A Lot Of Love-Making”

A conversation about Seal‘s Super Bowl commercial turned into a full-blown interview with the singer on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

While Drew Barrymore‘s excitement over Seal’s surprise appearance on her show might’ve made it look as though they had never met before, that wasn’t necessarily the case. In fact, the British musician remembered the first time he ever met Barrymore around 15 or 20 years ago.

“We were in an airport lounge. I was at the food bar and I saw Drew, who I’d been a fan of for a very long time,” he explained. “And the first thing she said to me was, ‘Oh, hi. Could you pass me a date, please?’ I said, ‘Yeah, sure.’ So I reached over and got a date and put it on her plate. And she held it up to me and she said, ‘We have a date.’”

Seal added, “It made me think you were even cooler than I always knew you would be,” to which Barrymore gleefully replied, “Thank you for embracing my dorkiness.”

However, they also shared another connection, as Barrymore pointed out.

The actress starred in the 1995 action movie Batman Forever, while Seal’s hit song “Kiss From a Rose” famously played during the film’s end credits.

“That was a revelation of a song. That wasn’t a song. That was a movement,” Barrymore said, before joking, “I wonder how many babies came out of that song. Because I bet there was a lot of love-making.”

Seal said he owed “a lot” of his career to director Joel Schumacher, who chose to put his song in Batman Forever.

Schumacher was initially looking for something to play during Nicole Kidman and Val Kilmer‘s love scene — and while “Kiss From a Rose” didn’t work for that scene, Schumacher “loved it so much” that he decided to use it for the end credits, ultimately earning Seal mulitple Grammys.
