A 31-year-old pregnant woman in Mississippi was killed trying to escape after ex-boyfriend allegedly kidnapped her from a Nissan auto plant, forced her into a car, and shot her multiple times as he fled on the interstate.

Glynis Jackson attempted to get away from her abductor by leaping from the moving vehicle and was struck and killed by another vehicle, authorities say.

The ex-boyfriend, Joshua Demarshall Andrews, has since been arrested and charged with capital murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm, authorities announced.

“This is a heinous crime that shocks the conscience of society and Andrews will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker said in a statement following Andrews’ arrest.

According to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Andrews at about 7:30 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 27 abducted Jackson from the parking lot of the Nissan car manufacturing plant in Canton, Mississippi, which is about 25 miles north of Jackson. Deputies responded to the plant after 911 calls reported the alleged kidnapping, but Andrews had allegedly already fled the scene with Jackson in tow.

Details about the incident are scarce, but authorities said they located Jackson at the 161-mile marker on Interstate 55 in Holmes County, which is about 40 miles north of Canton. Jackson, a mother of three, had been shot “multiple times” and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators said they also recovered a firearm believed to have been used in connection with the crime.

Andrews turned himself in to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office one day after Jackson’s death.
