A 28-year-old man has been charged with gun and drug offences after allegedly pointing a gun at police and bystanders on the NSW central coast.

Police said they detected an unregistered Ford Falcon on Woy Woy Road in Woy Woy yesterday at 5.40pm, before the driver allegedly refused to pull over.

Officers started to follow the car, but stopped the pursuit over the alleged dangerous driving.

Police were called to Lentara Road at Umina Beach a short time later, after the same car allegedly crashed into a parked car and telegraph pole.

Police were told the driver allegedly threatened bystanders with the gun when they tried to approach him.

The driver allegedly fled on foot.

He was found by police on Haynes Avenue, where he allegedly pointed a gun at officers.

NSW police said that officers put down their guns and taser, and after some negotiations, the man surrendered to police.

The 28-year-old was searched, and allegedly found with a gun, a knife, and a clear plastic bag containing what police believe is methamphetamine.

He was taken to Gosford Hospital for testing, then taken to Gosford Police Station.

He has been charged with 13 offences, including failing to stop when told by police, driving under the influence of drugs, driving an insured car, driving without a license, and several drug and firearm offences.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear before Gosford Local Court today.
