Alleged Oklahoma Teen Serial Burglar and Rapist Captured After Foot Pursuit

A 19-year-old Oklahoma man has been arrested and accused of rape and multiple burglaries in the Norman area.

News on 6 reported that Landon Appleby was arrested this week as he attempted to gain unlawful entry to another home.

On Wednesday, at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Alameda Street. police were called by a resident after they heard someone trying to open their front door. After a foot pursuit, police were able to arrest the suspect.

Since September Appleby has been breaking into homes around 12th and Alameda Street.

“He would look for homes where he could make easy access or a door was left unlocked,” said Sarah Schettler, with the Norman Police Department.

Schettler said Appleby “most often, was found by the homeowner or resident standing in their bedroom.”

One victim woke to allegedly being raped by Appleby.

Upon Appleby’s arrest, he admitted he raped the victim and told police at first she thought he was her husband. Appleby also reportedly admitted to all the home invasions and attempted burglaries, claiming to be in in search of the residents’ money.

On Friday, Appleby bond was set at $1,000,000.

Appleby was booked on one count of first-degree rape, 10 counts of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary, and four counts of attempted burglary and he currently resides at the Cleveland County Detention Center, according to KFOR.

Due to living in the area of the crimes, Appleby will be required to wear a GPS monitor and not have any contact with his victims if he can bond out.

The story is developing. Check back for updates.
