Concern among live music fans as popular festival cancelled for second year

In 2024, tickets for the festival went on sale and the lineup was announced before the show was cancelled.

This year, the organisers simply announced that Splendour will not be returning to the NSW North Byron Parklands in 2025 before any tickets were released.

“Hey gang, sorry we’ve been so quiet, but we had a little holiday… finally,” the festival organisers said in an Instagram post.

“Splendour needs a little more time to recharge and won’t be back this year.

“Think of it as a breather so we can come back even bigger and better when the time is right.” 

Reference to the festival returning “when the time is right” – not next year – has left music fans fearing the festival could be gone for good.

“It’s over, it’s gone, RIP Splendour… Thanks for the memories,” one user wrote under the post. 

“You won’t be back… Bye splendour and thank you for the life-changing memories,” another said. 

A long list of Aussie music festivals, including Spilt Milk, NYE in the Park, Return to Rio and dozens more, have faded into non-existence due to a lack of sales and cost of living pressure over the past two years.

Splendour in the Grass was offered financial support by the Minns Government last year, but the event still did not go ahead.
