Rex Heuermann, the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer, was charged with a seventh murder last Tuesday, with prosecutors alleging that the killings occurred in his Massapequa Park basement in New York.
According to ABC News, the information surfaced as investigators connected Heuermann to the November 2000 murder of Valerie Mack.
Prosecutors stated that Heuremann adhered to a disturbing “planning document” he created to execute the murders. This included instructions for using “push pins” and tarps inside his family residence he shared with his wife and two adult children.
“We don’t have to specifically prove where they happened,” Suffolk County DA Ray Tierney told reporters after Heuermann’s arraignment at the Riverhead courtroom. “We have other elements that we need to prove.”
“But if you look at this case, if you look at the planning document, all of that is consistent with the commission of those murders occurring at the home.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, police arrested Manhattan architect Heuermann on July 13, 2023, for the deaths of three of the four women known collectively as the “Gilgo Four.” The bodies were found within days of each other on Gilgo Beach in December 2010.
Heuermann has been charged with murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27; and is the prime suspect in the death of 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

In court, Heuermann proclaimed his innocence.
“Your honor, I am not guilty of any of these charges,” he told Judge Tim Mazzei, according to Patch News.
Valerie Mack’s parents attended Heuermann’s arraignment in court on Tuesday morning, following the discovery of her remains in Gilgo Beach and Manorville.
Tierney told reporters that they felt “very grateful for the small bit of closure” the new charges provided, as they received flowers from the relatives of other victims.
