Two people are in hospital after surviving a terrifying crash at Maslin Beach, south of Adelaide, when their car nose-dived off a cliff and smashed into the sand 50 metres below.

CCTV obtained by 9News shows the V8 Holden Calais driving straight towards the edge of the cliff on Oleander Road.

“They’ve obviously come down Oleander Road at some rate of knots I’d think, to climb that hill there and finish down there is just unbelievable,” local resident Peter Holeman said.

The 30-year-old female driver suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to hospital, while a 30-year-old male passenger from Tanunda was transported by ambulance.

“The female was the driver and she was still in the car. I think they had to cut her out of something and the man actually walked away,” witness Evelyn Lumme said.

Police are now investigating the lead-up to the crash.
