A delicate rescue operation mission has unfolded at a Queensland beach after a father plunged down a cliff in front of his wife.

The Perth man was on holidays on the Sunshine Coast when he plunged 20 metres into the water this morning at Paradise Caves in the Noosa National Park.

Emergency services and a rescue helicopter rushed to the scene, while surf lifesavers were called in to join the large rescue mission.

A man has been winched to safety after he fell from a cliff at Noosa Heads in Queensland. Emergency services were called to Seaview Terrace about 11.45am to rescue the man, aged in his 40s, from the water.

The father was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with arm and chest injuries in a stable condition.

“The incident was witnessed by the patient’s wife, there was a period of loss of consciousness initially but he quickly regained consciousness,” Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor James Mayfield said.

“He was able to move himself to a spot and set himself up until help arrived.”

Rescuers battled high tide and tough surf conditions to reach the man, who was treated for a serious head injury.
