Jessica Simpson and her husband of 10 years, Eric Johnson, are officially headed for divorce. As the exes move through their split, they plan to focus on co-parenting their three kids. Two days before Simpson announced the breakup, she listed her mansion in Hidden Hills, California, for nearly $18 million after first putting it on the market in September 2023. A law specialist thinks Jessica Simpson’s Hidden Hills mansion will be sold ‘very quickly’
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson are officially calling it quits. Amid their divorce, Simpson put her Hidden Hills mansion up for sale. The 3,274-square-foot home with seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms is listed for $17.9 million. Simpson originally listed the home in September 2023 for $22 million and hasn’t sold it yet.
Certified family law specialist Goldie Schon told The U.S. Sun that Simpson listing and selling her home could help expedite the divorce. “The likelihood is that she possibly doesn’t live in that residence very much, and it’s a property that possibly needs to be sold for purposes of division in their divorce, or maybe it’s just money that she could use in order to provide to Eric as part of a buyout in their divorce so that this could be settled in a more expedited way,” Schon explained.
Schon noted that now is a “good time” to list the home due to the wildfires that ripped through the Pacific Palisades in early 2025. So far, it doesn’t look like the fires affected Simpson’s house. However, other famous folks living in Hidden Hills, like the Kardashians, evacuated.
“And it would not be surprising for someone who lived in the Palisades to buy a house in Hidden Hills,” she said. “The fact that she put it on the market, and she reduced the price from where she had it a few years prior, my guess is that house will be sold very quickly, and that possibly could help Jessica with some liquidity, so that she has basically liquid money that she could play with in order to try and settle the divorce with Eric on a faster basis. It’s a good move.”
Jessica Simpson said she feels happier in Nashville
In August 2023, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson temporarily relocated with their children to Nashville, Tennessee. They planned to eventually return to Los Angeles. However, Simpson explained how her kids noticed she looked “happier” in the southern state.
“Being in Nashville, even my kids are like, ‘You laugh the whole time. You’re so happy,’” she revealed during a PetSafe event in Los Angeles, according to E! News. “It’s because I’m not on guard. I’m with a lot of like-minded people. It’s not about the celebrities — it’s really about the music, and the heart, and the conversation.”
Nashville helped inspire Simpson to create new music. “I’m not nervous at all, but if you were to ask me two years ago when I was talking about coming back to music, I was frightened,” she said. “But now, I know exactly what I want.”
The star’s move to Nashville might’ve put strain on her marriage with Eric Johnson
Jessica Simpson noted how much she loved living in Nashville. However, a source told Life & Style that the move might’ve created “tension” in her marriage.
“Jessica relocated to Nashville to work on new music while Eric mostly stayed in LA with the kids,” the source explained. “They went into it with a plan, but as time went on, it created a lot of tension. Eric felt abandoned, while Jess felt she wasn’t asking too much, and neither saw the other’s point of view.”
